“Sookie’s Breaks up with Bill” – Episode 4×01 “She’s Not There” Recap

Hey Bill, it’s Sookie…and I have something to say to you!

Everything seemed lovely at first,  as if the light would never end.

I felt as if I had tasted “pure happiness.”

You disappeared once…..But no matter what the circumstances pointed to, I never gave up and  I never believed you abandoned me. I just wanted to have you back in my life.

But I should have noticed things were rotten, not matter how lovely it all seemed.

You tried to saturate my body with your blood  light fruit so I would remain under your control. You even promised to protect me but you had actually set a trap for my abduction so that I could be harvested by an evil Queen.

I know you would die for me, but I can’t ever have you back in my life in that way.

My life is better now that we’re no longer together but now that I have awaken from your influence, I must face the harsh realities of my life.

You know I will always hold a piece of you with me despite everything and I realize your influence will always be present in my life, if even just a little bit.

You say you love me…BUT you were even willing to give up on me even though I never gave up on trying to find you when you disappeared. Aren’t you ashamed that even Eric wasn’t willing to stop looking for me?

Although I hesitated, I decided to enter your vampire witch world for you. However, my fate had been decided and I had no choice to back out after my usefulness to them was discovered.

**I don’t want you to deny what makes you special. That’s why I want you to join my witch group**    **I don’t want you to deny what makes you special. That’s why I want you to join my vampire group**

Despite everything I went through, you made me stronger—-a fighter and a winner!

Your about as trustworthy as a mainstream politician and now you are one!

I even stood up for us when the world eyed us carefully and harassed us for our love.

I know what you want from me, but I have learned my lessons and want to move on with my life, no matter how hard you push.

I cared about you and loved you, yet you continued to lie about your past and the present for your own selfish reasons.

When I disappeared, you not only gave up on me, you barely mentioned me or kept my memory alive as you kept busy with other women.

Even though I loved you, the situation between us turned out to be ridiculous.

I guess part of the reason I loved you so much was because I could be myself with you without worrying…..I wasn’t a freak anymore.

I probably worked harder than I should have to please you and prove my love (even when you had disappeared), but you still wanted to me mold me the way you saw fit even if it meant lying to me and trapping me.

So…..

Why don’t you just focus on your politics now and the women that come along with that?

As I probably end up being Eric’s…whether I initially want it or not….And this time, it won’t be a dream…

This is an awesome evocation of feelings through imagery (even if you destroyed Bill in the process heh). I was feeling emotionally pulled in through your words, even though I hold some sympathies for Mr. Compton. This brilliance of it is how you took scenes from throughout the show, from the narratives of several different characters, and used them all to illustrate the relationship of Bill and Sookie. Outstanding really.

Thank you so much even though your a slight BL! lol

I truly believe that while we may get frustrated with the other story lines at times, they really have something to say about the characters we most care about (Sookie, Eric, Bill).

    this :
“You say you love me…BUT you were even willing to give up on me even though I never gave up on trying to find you when you disappeared. Aren’t you ashamed that even Eric wasn’t willing to stop looking for me?”
you’d think for someone who (supposedly) had never loved anyone as he had loved her (not to mention labeling her his miracle) he would have held on to SOME hope!
but instead we got this :
“When I disappeared, you not only gave up on me, you barely mentioned me or kept my memory alive as you kept busy with other women”

im sorry, not saying bill feels nothing for sookie..but come one! the writers have practically been spelling this out for us!

thanks for yet another great post!

i totally meant come on! not one lol

    • #5 by Kat on June 27, 2011 - 9:21 pm

Yeah, if the love of my life had gone missing I think that I would have held out some hope until I saw the body….at least for much longer than a year.

Yes, there are many things open to interpretation on True Blood…but the contrast between Eric and everyone else is not. Eric loves Sookie so much and is so loyal that he wouldn’t give up on Sookie ever, just as he never gave up on avenging his family. Bill “loves” Sookie so much he focused on shoring up his power and having his pick of fangbangers while he wallowed in his broodiness.

      THANK YOU!

Thank you so much osterby…I try to focus on evoking the emotion and the common theme because nobody needs a blow-by-blow for an episode they’ve already seen.

  4. #8 by Trufan on June 27, 2011 - 10:20 pm

The episode sounds so much more interesting the way you write about it then I remember it being when I watched it, lol. They do love their parallel relationships on True Blood, don’t they?
My favourite line of the episode was “Is this another dream?” I know it’s MY dream…I’ll be yours Eric, you don’t even have to ask, just bite, lol. 🙂 Possibly the best scene ever so far in the series! You ARE MINE. Yes, I am.

Why thank you LOL….yes, yes they do ha, so I believe it’s important to emphasize them.

I think they were basically talking to the Eric fans in the audience by saying that. 🙂

  5. #10 by sam on June 28, 2011 - 12:59 am

I just loved Eric in the first and second episodes because it was almost like he was saying to Sookie. “Look, You got off easy with everyone else when they forgave you for coming back, but your not gonna get off the hook that easy with me. You didn’t think there would be consequences to your actions?”

lol Eric wasn’t harassing or meaning to hurt Sookie by buying her house or telling her she was his. He really was just teasing her in a sense because he knows playing it saife is just about the most dangerous thing a woman like Sookie could do. Eric has been right about Sookie all along and the two types of people that she has inside her.

I can’t believe there are so many people that think Eric is just out to hurt Sookie. Thats nuts! Besides I love Eric’s sensual, possesive, instincive, passionate personality. Yum!!

    • #11 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 2:14 am

      WELCOME sam.

I didn’t think of it in terms of Eric giving the harsh reality to Sookie but that makes sense. Nice thought.

Sookie did seemed to be thoughtful and spooked by Eric’s two people statements. I just thought Eric was being up front with her, something Bill or nobody else ever was. She needs it, she’s as vulnerable as he says obviously.

Well a lot of people just think that Eric doesn’t care about Sookie beyond some obsessive fascination with her blood and having sex with a fairy (cmon he was attracted instantly before he knew a thing) and even if he does, he’s the bad guy and Bill is the good guy (though we know the opposite is true).

hahaha. great idea. i’m so glad she finally kicked him to the curb. i really love him as the new badass king of louisiana though. as soon as he’s not all about sookie anymore, his character is actually kinda interesting. 😉 let’s just hope they NEVER get back together.

    • #15 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 1:17 pm

Thanks…..can’t be as happy as me ha

I TOTALLY agree and I think it’ll drive him farther apart from her.

      NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  8. #16 by TruFan on June 28, 2011 - 6:21 am

I had a dream last night about True Blood, and that’s never happened before. Unfortunately it wasn’t the sort of dream I would have LIKED to have, lol. However, I think my unconscious mind worked out something…
In my dream, Eric had bought Sookie FROM Bill….and even after waking up that makes sense. Hear me out.
    1. It explains why Bill can’t (or won’t?) help Sookie with this situation. Based on everything we know so far he should be DYING to help her out. And he’s KING now. Seriously.
    2. Explains why Eric even considered the thought that he might own her. It just doesn’t make sense unless someone told him that he would.
    3. Eric has offered to take Sookie in trade for a debt Bill owed him in the past.
    4. Bill might have thought Sookie was dead or gone forever, and taken advantage of Eric’s belief she was still alive to settle an old debt or score. One we don’t know about yet.

What do you think? Does this only make sense to me?

    • #17 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 1:15 pm

      1. What, because everyone thinks Sookie is Eric’s?
      2. Well, that makes sense.
      3. Wow, hadn’t thought of it again.
      4. AGAIN, wow…great thought.

      Wow, I wonder if Bill

But why would Bill order Eric away from Sookie (even if he’s king) if she was now his in Bill’s eyes, like it or not?
Maybe we should lay out this post and I could do it in your honor…idk….

  9. #18 by TruFan on June 28, 2011 - 2:07 pm

Bill did order Eric away, but remember his words…”Not NOW” he didn’t say “Not ever” or even “get the hell away from Sookie” It was more like, this isn’t the time, but the time will come. Because we made a deal.

That’s also why #1. Bill made a vampire deal with Eric, and as a king, maybe it would hurt his reputation to renege on that deal? Bill doesn’t have his age to back up his position, maybe his word is all he has.

The more I think about this, the more convinced I am that this must be the case.

    • #19 by IATM on June 28, 2011 - 2:19 pm

well Billy didnt say his famous words to Sookie when Eric was there.. you know the ones “Suuuka is Muhn”..LOL !!

    • #20 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 2:25 pm

@ TruFan- That’s a very good point. Do you think we should analyze this in an article (with you getting partial credit)? I wonder if Eric would plan on ever mentioning that to Sookie. I don’t know why he’d have to make a deal with Bill if Sookie broke things off with Bill before she left unless Bill claimed her as king.

@IATM- thank god, i would have vomited!

  10. #21 by IATM on June 28, 2011 - 2:09 pm

i like all the thought you put into this.. what about Tara living a lie for a year & created herself a whole new Idenity?? could that be translated into B/S relationship with these picture’s??

    • #22 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 2:30 pm

Exactly. Bill changed just about everything except his name (but his southern gentlemen person was simply aided by his history).
Yes, that’s part of what I wanted to convey/parallel.

  11. #23 by TruFan on June 28, 2011 - 2:12 pm

oh, and also, Why else would Bill show Sookie he had another love interest? He is NOT acting like a man who wants Sookie back. He is acting like a man who is gently pushing her in a different direction. I don’t like the idea of Sookie being manipulated in this way, but it does make sense that it’s actually Bill doing the manipulating, in the same way he has ALWAYS done.

Maybe he’s even setting Eric up in some way. Maybe Bill doesn’t want Sookie to be his when it’s publicly discovered exactly what she is. Maybe he’s setting up plausible deniablity?

    Gosh…speculating is fun! 🙂

    • #24 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 2:33 pm

I didn’t understand why he didnt get them ready and dressed before Sookie waltzed up to his room. He did find out while they were having sex…
Unless he was trying to make Sookie jealous 🙂

Well I think he wants her but I think that he’s so power hungry and interested in politics right now that two things are going through his head: she’s a liability and since he lied to Nan about her, he’s protecting her and covering up the lie.

YES IT IS! I can do it all day obviously LOOOL

thanks Anna! I will be responding to your colors post soon!

  13. #27 by Trufan on June 28, 2011 - 3:25 pm

I think an article would be an excellent idea! I’m sure your exploration of the idea would be very enlightening indeed. Also, if it ended up being true that there was some sort of Bill/Eric deal, it would be that much more important that Sookie fall for the uncorrupted “innocent” Eric. She clearly loves that part of him already, she even used his vulnerability about Godrick’s death to defend her feelings towards Eric to Bill. I think Sookie might have a little bit of a mothering complex, lol.

    • #28 by Kat on June 28, 2011 - 8:01 pm

An Eric/Bill agreement is worth exploring despite my doubts I think.

Well I think she already believes in that side of him but until she sees it out for a long period of time, she’ll think it’s too fleeting to hope to have most of the time.

I was waiting the beginning of the season and your posts! 🙂
And it was very good to read that, you always write almost exactly what I think. I couldn´t read all the comments, but I will write what I thought.
First of all, I liked the beginning in faeriland, it remainded me an old fary tale, who pictured an ambiguous faery world like that. Glad Sookie found his grandaddy, in spite she had to loose him again. it hurted to hear her crying.
I loved the way Bill and Eric opened their eyes when Sookie came back 🙂
I hated when Bill appeared at the door, with that stupid expression, yuck! and how he treated Eric! what a fake is Bill, he has no dignity after the way she zoomed him out! Anyway, Bill is very interesting as a villain, so I hope as the Queen…ehem..King, he develop his darker side 8if possible), in a moment I thought Sookie was goint to say: Waaaait Beeeelll….and i was about to punch the TV! hahaha
hm Eric, his only presence makes me loose my mind for some days! 🙂
The best way to protect Sookie is to claim her as his. Good, very good
The paralell speech of Eric and Bill, brillant!

And other thing I liked a lot. Sam and his anger management group. Didn´t you feel a huge sense of freedom when you saw the horses? great image!

best Regards and keep writing that good!!
    Gaby

    • #34 by Kat on June 29, 2011 - 2:24 pm

THANK YOU Gaby! I am flattered.

It was good she finally knew the truth though. That’s often the hardest thing for families with missing loved ones.

I couldn’t believe Sookie didn’t say anything in Eric’s defense after what she found out about Bill like an hour ago in her mind. That didn’t seem right.
I like Bill the villian as well (a lot better than dramatic with sookie Bill). I am sure he will develop his darker side, in fact I feel this is Bill’s dark side revealed rather than a recent development.
I also think his deeper entanglement in politics will drive them farther a part.

Eric is protecting Bill just as much if not better than Bill so I dont believe Bill deserves all the protection credit….that much is obvious.

Wow, that is a very good point about the running horses.

      THANKS again Gaby!

Oh, goodness, when eric walked in I just about melted.

Great post, loved the play by play!

    • #36 by Kat on July 1, 2011 - 12:34 pm

When I first saw him on the screen I melted 🙂

Thank you, thank you. I like to tie it all in without basically regurgitating everything that happened.
